This article talks about an experiment done in some Philadelphia schools where candy, soda, and basically any junk food was replaced by fruit juices and other healthy food choices.
It found that:
The number of kids who got fat during the two-year experiment was half the number of kids who got fat in schools that didn't make those efforts.
Granted, the bad news out of this is that there was a 7 percent increase in new overweight kids for those school districts but, that's a least progress considering the school districts that still had all the junk food saw an increase of 15 percent in that same measure.
But, overall, this is good to see and I hope more school districts that have been hesitant to take these actions (why they're hesitant I'm not sure why).
