Went to a Buffet and a Baseball Game Broke Out

Opening day to baseball season is about a week a half away and I can't wait. I'm really hoping for a great season from my Tigers.

I found this article a bit shocking in some ways.

I mean sure, you go to a ballgame, have a hot dog (although they aren't nearly as good as they were back in the day when I was a kid eating them at Tiger Stadium) and maybe some peanuts or another snack. But look at what was stated as the AVERAGE amount of food that someone is eating at these all-you-can-eat seating sections:

Ron Ranieri, general manager of concessionaire Aramark at Atlanta's Turner Field, calculates that a typical all-you-can-eat customer downed: 3.35 hot dogs; one 20-ounce soda; one 7.9-ounce bag of peanuts; one 3-ounce order of nachos and 32 ounces of popcorn.

I don't know about anyone else but I get that sick feeling in my stomach just reading that.

I guess I can see the point that it's a way for people to get all the food they can have for a cheaper rate than finding a way to get into one of the suites and have the same ability.

But with the amount listed above being the AVERAGE amount (meaning that half the people are actually eating MORE than what they listed) it's just flat out unhealthy.

And besides, if you're spending that much time eating, when do you ever get the chance to sit down and actually watch the game?

Have fun at the ballpark this summer. Have a hot dog, maybe some cotton candy, and if you can afford a beer, even have one of those. But, still remember, don't go overboard.

I Told you I was Going to Write Something

Admit it. You had doubts that I was going to write anything this week. But here I am for the tens of thousands of my fans that felt lost and deprived over the last number of months without my insightful fitness knowledge (okay fine, maybe not tens of thousands of people...but 7 people did look at it yesterday so I guess that's a start...).

This is an interesting article that essentially throws political correctness out the window when talking about why the obesity epidemic is taking hold of us. A couple of interesting quotes from the article:

We know what to do.
But we don't do what we know.
We've never been more educated.
Yet we've never been fatter.
We've never had more resources.
And we've never made more excuses (heard them all).
We've never had more reasons to lose weight.
And we've never wasted more time.

He continues:

But people don't wanna hear this message because it's too fundamental and obvious.
And it requires real effort, sacrifice, work and self-control.
No, we'd rather talk about weight-loss theory number ten million or the latest 'breakthrough' pill, powder, potion, product, gizmo or gadget.
Or that amazing new weight-loss book.
'Cause we need another one of those.

And then he hits what I've been saying for some time:

We want quick, easy, convenient and painless.
We are soft.
We are precious, lazy and lack self-control.
We are the quick-fix society.
And the instant-gratification generation.
And the fat generation.

We want quick results. We want want want NOW. Forget the fact that the it took years for an overweight person to put that weight on, we want it all off in 3 weeks before cousin Earl's wedding.

And he mentions this exact concept when he says:

9. The sooner we stop getting in shape for 'events' (weddings, birthdays, reunions, parties) and start getting in shape for life... the sooner we'll start to see forever results.

It's a big reason why I don't take on clients who say they want to lose weight before spring break or they've got a class reunion in a couple of months and they want to look their best. It's short sighted. You need to get in better shape, better habits, etc., for simply the sake of LIFE.

Is it an easy road? No. Are you going to have ups and downs? Yes. But if you have your mindset on the long term clearly at the forefront, then you'll reach what you're striving for.

I'm Back

Ya, I know, it's been AGES since I've put something on here. Sorry about that. The plan is to get back on here on a regular basis. I PROMISE...

One thing that I have now on my website are a couple of books that I recommend as a great resource for fitness information. You can check them out here and keep checking back at that link because over the next number of months I'll be adding more books, along with some of my own workouts that I'll be selling.

And, remember that little puppy of mine? Well, not so little anymore. Take a look at all 70 pounds of her..

Nice Home Garden Salad

So if you're like me and you've got a vegetable garden in your backyard, I came up with a really good salad over the weekend from what picked from it.

Here's what I had:

- A half a cucumber sliced and quartered
- A half a green pepper chopped up
- Some cherry tomatoes cut up (or you could cut up some regular tomatoes

Not from the garden:

- A can of tuna
- A handful of walnuts
- Olive oil
- Red Wine vinegar
- Salt
- Pepper
- Garlic Salt

Combine all those ingredients in a bowl and you've got yourself a really nice lunch salad with some good protein, good fat, and a nice portions of vegetables.
